Roy Southerland is the Director of NFF’s Building Equitable Assets for Communities and Nonprofits (BEACoN) New Jersey program, a $20 million fund making flexible loans to support nonprofits in New Jersey to acquire, develop/rehab, and operate assets that contribute to community wealth and well-being. Before NFF, Roy was the Managing Director of Business Infrastructure for New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC), where his primary responsibilities were to assist the NJCC team with strategic planning and tactical implementation of business operations across all the company’s lines of business.
Prior to NJCC, Roy was the Chief Investment Officer for Invest Newark. He assisted with the creation and operations of the Newark Land Bank and was the lead in designing and operating the loan development, underwriting and portfolio management systems for the company.
Roy attended Howard University for a Bachelor of Science in communications sciences, attained a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Thomas Edison State College, and a Master of Arts in strategic leadership from St. Bonaventure University. He is also certified in Credit Risk Analysis and Community and Economic Development Financing from Cornell University and New York University respectively.
