Angela Francis

As a member of the Learning & Impact team, Angie leads NFF’s impact measurement work. In this role, she helps stakeholders access data and insights, allowing them to better understand – and tell the story – of NFF’s impact. This initially required the development of NFF’s Theory of Change and currently includes systems and process building, allowing NFF to learn from its data and adapt our products and services to better meet client needs. She has 20 years of nonprofit experience, spanning data systems, operations, equitable evaluation, and direct consulting with nonprofit clients.

Before joining NFF, Angie was the senior grant writer at Isles, Inc., a community development corporation located in Trenton, NJ. Prior to that, she managed campaigns to register new voters in the northeastern US. A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, she holds degrees in communications and women’s studies and resides in Philadelphia with her family.

Dominique Hugg

Dominique Hugg (she/her) is the Senior Director of Consulting Practice Management at Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF), where she leads operational strategy, cross team collaboration and support, and process improvement for the Consulting department. She ensures that systems, data, and structures are in place to help NFF’s consultants deliver high-impact work to nonprofits nationwide.

Since joining NFF in 2013, Dominique has held both internal and client-facing roles, supporting nonprofit leaders through one-on-one engagements, workshops, and initiatives focused on financial strategy and organizational health. She brings a strong commitment to equity, sustainability, and practical solutions that help mission-driven organizations thrive.

Dominique holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from Lehigh University and serves as co-Treasurer on the board of Dance/NYC. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring parks and beaches with her toddler, tending her balcony garden, and using dance as a joyful form of fitness and expression.

Jessica LaBarbera

Jessica (she/her) serves as Chief of Staff and Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at NFF, advancing NFF’s strategic priorities and partnerships. Since 2008, she’s held various leadership roles at NFF. As Chief Business Development Officer for NFF’s Advisory Services practice, she oversaw raising $7-9 million in annual revenues for NFF’s financial consulting services for nonprofits and their funding partners while supporting the strategic evolution of a national consulting practice. Additionally, she spearheaded NFF’s national Pay for Success experimentation and as California Market Director, she led regional program growth and product delivery.

Previously, she served as Vice President at Citi Community Capital, providing structured financing and impact investment to national nonprofit and CDFI clients. She holds a Master of Public Administration in nonprofit management from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Virginia.

Phillip Clay

NFF Board Secretary 

Phillip L. Clay, PhD served as the Chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2001 until 2011. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a doctorate from MIT. Phillip also held other leadership positions at MIT and was Department Head at DUSP where he has been a faculty member since 1976. Phillip is widely known for his work in U.S. housing policy and urban development. His current interests include organizational capacity in community-based nonprofits as well as the role of anchor institutions. Growing out of his work on MIT international strategies, he is also interested in the increasing role higher education can play in national development strategies in less developed and emerging nations. Phillip is Chair of the Board of The Community Builders, Inc., one of the nation’s largest nonprofit developers of affordable housing. He is a member on several foundation and nonprofit boards, including The Kresge Foundation and The MasterCard Foundation and also has experience in public higher education as a member of the board of the University of North Carolina. He is a member of the board of the Aga Khan University.

Alexandra Chan

Alex (she/her) is a Senior Director with NFF’s consulting team. She partners with nonprofit leaders and funders to strengthen the financial capacity of social sector organizations through planning and analysis, research, strategic thought partnership and training. Prior to joining NFF in 2013, Alex supported the implementation and growth of health and nutrition education programs at the Food Bank for New York City, where she worked with teachers and school administrators at over 200 public elementary schools and after-school centers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College, and a Masters of Business Administration from New York University Stern School of Business. A Bay Area native, she lives in the East Bay with her husband and daughter.

Kristine Alvarez

Kristine Alvarez (she/her) is a Senior Director in the Consulting Department at NFF, bringing over 20 years of experience in strengthening financial management practices across the nonprofit sector. Grounded in a deep commitment to community service and a clear understanding of the operational challenges nonprofits face, Kristine is known for her ability to translate complex financial concepts into practical, mission-driven strategies that help organizations grow and succeed.

At NFF, Kristine provides strategic financial guidance to nonprofit leaders and philanthropic funders, leads group financial trainings, and contributes to sector-wide thought leadership. She is a co-author of NFF’s influential 2015 report, Overcoming Financial Barriers to Expanding High-Quality Early Care & Education (read here: https://nff.org/blog/overcoming-barriers-expanding-high-quality-early-care-and-education), which continues to shape conversations and practices in the field.

Kristine previously served as Communications Director at City Year Philadelphia, business planning advisor for social enterprise ventures, and grassroots organizer for congressional campaigns. She holds a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University, Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, and Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) credential through Fiscal Management Associates.

Tessa Borelli

Tessa (she/her) leads content creation, digital marketing, and website strategy to amplify stories, perspectives, and insights – from ideas about how to create more community wealth and well-being to helpful “how to” guides for people new to nonprofit finance.

She originally joined NFF as a member of the Consulting team, providing operational and programmatic support. Before NFF, Tessa was Associate Director of Admission at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and worked for the Youth Leadership Institute as a Training Coordinator, Human Resources Liaison, and Assistant to the Vice President of Community Based Programs. Tessa holds a Bachelor of Music from Mannes College of Music in New York and a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in cello performance.

Farhin Zaman

Farhin Zaman (she/her) is a strategic operations leader and systems thinker with over a decade of experience at the intersection of technology, organizational strategy, and social impact. As Senior Director of Operations and IT at Nonprofit Finance Fund, she leads the enterprise-wide management of data systems and technology infrastructure to drive cross-functional initiatives, strengthen data governance, and align solutions with organizational goals and compliance requirements. Farhin oversees the development and optimization of NFF’s Salesforce environment, designs dynamic Power BI dashboards, and collaborates on programmatic reporting to ensure a unified, reliable source of organizational data. She also leads a high-performing team focused on systems innovation, user experience, analytics, and scalable solutions. Farhin holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Boston College with a minor in environmental studies, and is certified as a Salesforce Administrator and Power BI Data Analyst.

Onika Lewis

Onika Lewis is Vice President of the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program at Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF), where she oversees strategy, capital raising, deployment, underwriting, compliance, and asset management. She has over 12 years of NMTC experience and has deployed $189 million in allocation to high-impact projects nationwide.

Prior to joining NFF in 2014, Onika served as a Portfolio Analyst at New Jersey Community Capital, managing an $80 million NMTC portfolio and a $62 million participation loan fund. She also worked at Inclusiv, overseeing $25 million in mortgage and deposit portfolios to community development credit unions.

Onika brings a deep commitment to equity and uses mission-driven finance to support underserved communities. She serves on the NMTC advisory boards of CEI Capital Management and Vital Healthcare Capital and holds degrees from St. John’s University and CUNY Hunter College.

Gurvinder Singh

Gurvinder Singh (he/him) is the Accounting Manager of Finance at Nonprofit Finance Fund, where he supports the finance team with Concur expense processing, payroll approvals, and billing invoices. He is also responsible for preparing bank reconciliations, overseeing accounts payable, monitoring deferred revenue for services, and assisting with year-end audit activities. Prior to joining NFF, Gurvinder served as a Finance Assistant at Columbia University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Queens College in New York.
