Aisha Benson, CEO of NFF, and Karen Ford, CEO of HousingPlus, co-hosted a site visit on August 18th at 365 Shepherd, HousingPlus’s new $61 million affordable and supportive housing development in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, developed in partnership with Spatial Equity.
The site visit brought together elected leaders, government agencies, advocates, nonprofits, and mission-driven lenders to discuss how public-private partnerships make community investments possible – especially when there is a shared commitment to address the city’s housing needs.
Developed on the site of a former junkyard, 365 Shepherd features 123 apartments in a LEED Gold-certified building. All units are affordable to households earning up to 60 percent of the Area Median Income, including 74 units that provide permanent, supportive housing for formerly homeless New Yorkers.
Attendees saw firsthand how strategic public, private, and community partnerships deliver tangible results in Cypress Hills and East New York. HousingPlus leadership provided an overview of the organization’s housing and supportive services model and their expanding housing portfolio in Brooklyn, including the soon-to-break-ground project at 729 Van Sinderen Avenue, financed in partnership with NFF and the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH).
