Director

Sarah Shampnois

I have focused my career on creating accessible and equitable spaces and systems for artists, arts audiences, students, and administrators. Most of my work has been centered on collaboration and community impact. I love saying “yes” to new ideas and figuring out how to make it happen.

Outside of work, I really enjoy interior design and renovation. I watch far too much HGTV and have spent a good part of the last several years doing a gut remodel of my condo. I also spend time watching movies and TV (big superhero genre fan), reading books and audiobooks, and love traveling.

Bio: Sarah (she/her) is a management professional with 20 years of experience in arts administration, finance and budgeting, community engagement, strategic planning, and fundraising and development. She is Co-Founder of Company One Theatre (C1) where she served as Co-Executive Director and Managing Director from 1998 to 2019. C1’s mission is to build community at the intersection of art and social change and is based in Boston, MA. With C1, she developed artistic, education, and community programs centered on collaborations with community partners. Collaborators ranged from city agencies such as Boston’s Office of Arts and Culture, the Boston Public School system and the Boston Public Library, to large cultural institutions, to nonprofits that work in fields from youth development to immigration to reproductive rights and more. These programs brought low-cost and free programming to thousands and helped C1 become a leader in serving younger, more diverse audiences. Sarah also used her deep interest in data to develop C1’s audience feedback surveys, program evaluation systems, and comprehensive financial modeling. Additionally, Sarah has worked for Clark University, AmeriCorps, New Jersey Community Water Watch, MassPIRG, and the President’s Council on Sustainable Development under President Clinton. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree in nonprofit management from the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark University in environmental science and policy.
