May 4, 2015

Nonprofit Finance Fund is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. David J. Erickson to our Board of Directors. As Director of the Center for Community Development Investments at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, David is a nationally-recognized community development finance advocate and researcher who grounds his bold vision of where our industry needs to go in a deep understanding and appreciation of where we have been.

NFF has partnered with David in the past as a contributor to the Community Development Investment Review and What Works books series he edits and as a panelist in many of the events David tirelessly runs across the country. David’s recent focus on forging productive alliances between the community development finance and health sectors highlights an opportunity and approach NFF is increasingly focused on—how to reorient our social system around improving outcomes for low-income communities and providing the full range of tailored investments, strategic advice and accessible insight needed to pull this off.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join an organization at the vanguard of the community development finance field that is not only using financial capital in innovative ways but uniquely combining it with advisory services and advocacy to promote systemic improvement in how we serve the communities we all care about,” David said.

“We are honored and excited to welcome David to the NFF Board,” said NFF Board Chair Maria Blair. “In addition to his relevant expertise and network, David exemplifies the NFF Value of “Rigor without Attitude” and brings a contagious enthusiasm to his work.”

David has a Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on economic history and public policy. He also holds a Master in Public Policy from Berkeley and an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. He authored The Housing Policy Revolution: Networks and Neighborhoods, a book on the history of community development, published in 20098 by the Urban Institute Press and co-edited Investing in What Works for America’s Communities: Essays on People, Place and Purpose (2013). David also edits the Federal Reserve journal, Community Development Investment Review.
