Mentoring California youth

$500,000 bridge loan

New Earth Organization (NEO) provides mentor-based arts, educational, and vocational programs that empower juvenile justice and system-involved youth to make positive, healthy life choices and realize their aspirations. The organization’s founder was himself formerly incarcerated; as such, NEO approaches its work with young people from a place of deep understanding and empathy. At the organization's center in Culver City, young people participate in career training and paid work experience, a fully accredited high school diploma program, mentorship, case management, nature expeditions, arts programming, and wrap-around services that help them re-enter their communities with the support they need to achieve lifelong success.

While it waits for approved funding from the state of California, NEO requested a $500,000 bridge loan from NFF to ensure it has cash on hand to provide these essential services to California youth. They also plan to use the funding to invest in a dedicated development team and social enterprise programs. These investments will both ensure sustainable revenue sources for the organization and create opportunities for the young people it serves.
