New Loan Closing: Mi Casa Resource Center

October 27, 2021

Closing the prosperity gap for women, people of color, and immigrants in Denver

$250,000 working capital loan through the Metro Denver Nonprofit Loan Fund (October 2021)

Mi Casa Resource Center educates, trains, and supports youth and adults on their path to success in education, employment, and business ownership. Mi Casa was founded in 1976 by eight mothers living in West Denver who had a clear vision of its purpose as a place for women who wanted more for themselves and their families. Forty-five years later, Mi Casa has grown exponentially; today, it offers comprehensive support programs for underserved entrepreneurs, connects low-income jobseekers to programs that match their professional aspirations, and provides career exploration programming for young people. Mi Casa’s programs also give participants the opportunity to earn up to nine college credits that can be applied at both the Community College of Aurora and the Metropolitan State University of Denver, allowing them to ultimately earn Bachelor’s degrees with support from the nonprofit. In 2019, Mi Casa served 2,063 individuals and their families; of their clients 85% identify as BIPOC and 71% identify as women.

Mi Casa has recently hired a new development director and a CEO with extensive fundraising experience. By retaining its existing staff and filling these two open positions, the organization is now in a strong position to expand its fundraising capacity and enter a growth period over the next several years. This working capital loan will allow the organization to ramp up its planned growth as these staff members are onboarded, giving them time to develop new relationships and secure additional grant funding. With this long-term investment in development, Mi Casa will be able to offer its critical services to even more people – ensuring that Denver residents who have long faced barriers can access the support they need to achieve their goals.
