“Grantmaking Should be Grounded in Real Costs” by Antony Bugg-Levine and Fred Ali in Stanford Social Innovation Review

Antony Bugg-Levine and Fred Ali contributed a response to “Pay-What-It-Takes” in Stanford Social Innovation Review’s Up for Debate series to further explore the systemic changes needed to set nonprofits up for success and honor funders with results that their generosity deserves. In “Grantmaking Should Be Grounded in Real Costs,” Mr. Bugg-Levine and Mr. Ali note that “successful approaches begin with an open and comprehensive understanding of the full costs each organization requires to achieve results.” The article discusses how full costs differ over time, by context, and are about more than covering indirect costs or overhead.
