Nonprofit Resource Equity and Access: A Call to Close the Gap
August 14, 2018
Nonprofit Finance Fund’s free financial capacity-building workshops in New York City in 2017 explored how funders often perpetuate the cycle of chronic under-investment in small nonprofits and those led by people of color.
7 Concrete ways funders champion funding equity and inclusion in their grantmaking process are:
- Fund a continuum of organizational capacity improvement.
- Reach beyond existing relationships and networks.
- Value community assets and non-traditional signs of measured results.
- Promote clear, trust-based communications.
- Grant flexible funds that cover the full costs of programs and services, with appropriately sized reporting requirements.
- Build capacity where needed.
- Be patient.
